The Sectional Fear: "If I Tell Them, Theyโll Shut Me Down"
Sectional pairings are finally out. This is the moment you’ve been working for all year. But if your arm is hanging now, you are getting a little worried. Your bicep is tight, your forearm feels like a brick, and you’re just praying you can "make it through" the next few weeks.
I hear it from players all the time, usually after it is too late: "Nate, I didn’t want to get checked out because I was afraid I was going to be told I can’t throw"
To a high school senior with sectionals coming up, the words “You can’t throw” are devastating. So, you grind through it. You hide the soreness. You "rub some dirt on it."
But here’s the truth: Hiding the soreness is the fastest way to actually get shut down.
We Understand the Athletes Competiveness
At Integrated Performance, we have a different philosophy. We aren't here to just play it safe and tell every kid to sit on the bench. We know you want to compete. We know you want to be there for your team and chase a state championship.
Our job isn't to take you out of the game; it’s to support you so you can stay in it.
Unless there is an actual injury that absolutely requires protection from further injury, our goal is to find the "why" behind your soreness and fix it in real-time so you can hit the mound at your prime for Sectionals.
Looking Under the Hood: The Mid-Season Maintenance Checklist
Often, that forearm or bicep soreness isn't a tear—it’s your body trying to protect itself. Your forearm muscles might have trigger points to try and stabilize an elbow that is taking too much stress.
When you come in, we go through an elite checklist to keep you on the field:
- Hip & Ankle Check: Are your hips actually moving? If your lead hip is tight, your arm has to work twice as hard to create velo. If we clear up your hip mobility, the stress on your arm drops instantly.
- Soft Tissue Mobilization: We use specific manual therapy to break up those "knots" and trigger points in the bicep and forearm that are making you feel "dead."
- Movement Correctives: We give you the "low-intensity" drills that restore your range of motion without adding more fatigue to your arm.
Performance > Survival
You shouldn't just be trying to "survive" Sectionals. You should be thriving during that time.
When you ignore soreness, you aren't just risking a bigger injury—your performance is going down too. A sore arm is a slow arm. A stiff hip is a loss of command. By getting looked at now, you aren't "quitting"; you're optimizing.
